this thread was from 2001 (would love to paste the link here but i have serious technical difficulties with this site .
i definitely see the society using the "silent dropping" technique referenced by ray franz and expect to see 1914 discounted completely in the near future.
The WBTS will never give these dates up until at least 120 years have passed since 1914. This is because of the parallel they have previously alluded to between the 120 years God gave for the ending of Noah's world and the end of this old system of things which they say started in 1914. So there will always be the hope that the end will come within this 120 year period from 1914 to 2034.
Don't hold your breath for these dates to go away anytime soon...
maybe they're keeping the doctrine but they are not writing about it as much in the watchtower.. below are statistics from their 07 cd showing how many times 1914 was mentioned in the watchtower for each year 1950 to 2006 .
i have divided the years 1950 2006 into segments of eight excepting for the last, which is nine.. on the side i have the average for those years.
notice they have gone from 88.87 a year to 24.44. .
In COC Ray Franz wrote that at least a couple of GB members verbally indicated strong doubts about 1914 being true, and that was in the 1970's! You can imagine how many Watchtower big-wigs outrightly or secretly harbour doubts or downright dissent now, 30 years later!!
The 1914 doctrine is dead in the water & many head honchos at the mothership know it!!!!!! They are just too scared to admit it & try & extricate the organisation out of it. After all, it is an organisation based primarily on FEAR.

I don't believe it is a case of either the Bible is the word of God or it isn't. That is black & white thinking. The truth always lies somewhere in the middle. So I believe the Bible is predominantly the word of God but not that it is inerrant. God allowed some error & myth to creep in, but most of it I believe is reliable.
I am also what I call a Christian agnostic, meaning I believe in the Christian God of the Bible but I do not give organised religion the time of day any longer. God only operates through individuals, not religions.

I think in the next few years, maybe sooner, we will see dirty nukes exploded on American soil. It won't happen until the final jigsaw of the puzzle is in place for Al Qaeda to feel it has the moral justification for doing that. This moral justification will be when the US finally bombs Iran's nuclear facilities & otherwise tries to overthrow the Mullahs in Tehran. Israel will not stand for a nuclear-armed Iran because that is an existential threat to Israel's very existence. The US totally supports Israel in this. But Iran is still some way from being nuclear armed (won't be until 2010 at earliest), but when it is close or has reached that point, the US/Israel will attack, without a doubt! When this happens, Al Qaeda will finally attack the US homeland again, like no one has ever seen before. All experts are predicting it and it is only a matter of time. When it happens, it will make 9/11 look like childs play.
That is all I can see on the horizon as far as a potential doomsday goes.

why the hell would god want to teach a falsehood, then later clean it up to make it "the real truth"....and yet that is what has been going on for the last 100 plus years?
So called 'new light' is nothing but the Society realising it has made a mitake & attempting to correct it. That is it, plain & simple. Just human error being fiddled around with & occasionally corrrect.
